About Us

In 2005, businessman and arts patron John Mullis founded Opera UK, aiming to show first-class professional opera productions at genuinely sensible prices. Presenting core repertoire in essentially traditional though lively and imaginative stagings attracting both regular opera and theatre goers, but appealing also to newcomers taking their first steps into the exciting world of opera.

The casts, consisting mainly of younger people from the major conservatoires, not only sing beautifully but also act well, looking believable as the characters they play. In all our productions, we try to maintain the essence of what we believe to have been the composers' intentions without being too slavishly restricted by period, place or previous performing convention.

The directors that we work with are all intent on telling a good story as clearly and enjoyably as possible. At Opera UK, you will find no inexplicable gimmicks or art directors' extravagant excesses.
